Founded in 1979, Davey Green’s Wheatley Hill Pet and Corn is a pet shop in Wheatley Hill, County Durham that has remained in the hands of the same family. We started out selling animal feed and have since branched to become an Aladdin’s Cave to meet expanding customer requirements over the years. Whether you need maggots for fishing, decorating equipment, compost bags, hex keys or a poker, we will have it in stock. Our inventory is consistently developed to meet the needs of the community. How We Started
Our parents Elizabeth and David Green set up Davey Green’s Wheatley Hill Pet and Corn in 1979, moving to our current premises – a former dance hall – in 1980. David, who had a background in hardware, maintained and developed the building while Elizabeth manned the till. The shop quickly snowballed in size and David started to accommodate for growing customer requests for tools, equipment and parts by bringing in a variety of electrical, decorating, hardware and DIY goods. People would simply ask for something and we would get it for them, carrying purchased items to your car if needed and giving advice on what product best suits a particular customer need. Indeed, from the very start, our main priority has always been to make the customer happy.
Where We Are Today
Now run by the next generation, we maintain the same customer-based, friendly service that has underpinned our pet shop in Wheatley Hill, County Durham from the very start. The only real difference is the size of our shop! While still predominantly selling animal feed, the gradual expansion of our inventory over 40 years means that our shop is jam-packed with a plethora of useful goods such as decorating equipment, pesticides, gardening tools, D.I.Y hardware, car care and kitchen equipment, and so much more. Customers are often slightly overwhelmed at first by the sheer amount of choice! But don’t worry – we will always be there to guide you to the exact items you need and provide specialist advice.
